Art and Design in a Community
Tucked away in an unexpected corner plot on a residential street, The Art Cabin is a creative hub, a cornucopia of exciting art and limited edition prints, and a community resource rolled into one.
The Art Cabin was until recently known as The Old Sweet Shop. When artist and designer Joe Madeira started the gallery in 2006, his aim was to bring together the talented and undiscovered, to showcase emerging artists and designers and to encourage local people to take part in art activities.
More than four years on, and the gallery has an established reputation for running innovative projects, breaking new ground in a series of mouthwatering exhibitions, and giving people access to exciting creative experiences.
From the wild tea cosies of Knit Knot Tea Pot, through the extreme adventures of the red hat in The Longest Little Book, to the wonder-inducing Drawing with Light, our community workshops have encouraged participation and given people the chance to see their work exhibited in a professional context.
Promoting emerging art and design
Our constantly changing programme of exhibitions, from solo to themed and group shows, has helped launch the careers of young artists and illustrators, and developed a new audience for their work. Limited edition prints are emerging as a speciality for the gallery, and many of the artworks available online are exclusive to The Art Cabin.
While the gallery remains a welcoming space for visitors, the online shop means the doors are also open to those who live far away – and our unique, hand-picked range of goods can be shipped all over the UK.
