The Southfields Christmas ‘Street Lights’ were switched on at 5pm on Monday 3rd December by Mr Philip Brook, Chairman of The All England Lawn Tennis Club [AELTC] and Richard Lewis AELTC Chief Executive, who have kindly sponsored the Southfields Christmas lights for the next 3 years, starting this year.

Southfields Grid Resident Cllr. Adrian Knowles and Mayor of Wandsworths, with local Ward Councillors Kim Caddy, Guy Humphries and Terry Walsh, Norman Frost; Wandsworth Business Development Manager, Nigel Chandler; Resources Manager and John Ruske, Business Support Manager gathered outside Southfields Tube Station for the ‘switch on’.

Guy Humphries introduced Phillip Brook who addressed the crowds of people who came to see the lights ‘switch on’ after saying a few words about the Sponsorship and Southfields Business Association.

With the streets now lit up the AELTC Boss posed for photos. Official Council photographer, Liz Shaw recorded the event.

Spencer Childs, founding member of the Southfields Business Forum who lives in Elsenham Street and runs a Podiatry practice in Replingham Road had previously written:-

I am so pleased to see the Southfields Christmas street lights are finally switched on as it has taken a lot of hard work to organise. There are 21 lights in total down Replingham Road as far as Clonmore Street and then along Wimbledon Park Road from just outside the Baptist Church to Gartmoor Gardens.

We now have the lights on a three-year deal with the AELTC and we can have different lights next year. In 2013, we hope to have it better organised and promoted sooner. This year it was very last minute.
